2,4-D Facts in the Versailles Administrative Court’s Decision

7 April 2026

The 2,4-D Task Force must briefly comment on a recent Versailles Administrative Court’s decision involving a challenge to the authorization of a crop protection product containing several active ingredients, including 2,4-D. The case, brought by the NGO Générations Futures against the French regulator ANSES, examined whether the product’s authorization process met applicable regulatory requirements.

The court’s review was limited to other active ingredients in the product. The court did not assess or evaluate data related to 2,4-D, nor did it make any findings about its safety. 2,4-D remains approved for use in France and in all other registered jurisdictions based on extensive scientific data.

Regulatory authorities like ANSES evaluate each active substance independently. Consequently, this case does not alter the regulatory status or scientific assessment of 2,4-D, which regulators in more than 90 countries have concluded can be used safely when applied according to label directions.
